Professor Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) was one of Finland’s best-known ceramic artists. he spent most of his 50-year career creating unique art ceramics in Arabia’s art department. Kaipiainen’s color-saturated, lush yet refined art inspired his contemporaries to call him “the prince of ceramics” and “the king of decorators”. Kaipiainen received the honorary title of Professor in 1977
The Iittala Company was founded in 1881 in Finland by a Swede named Petrus Magnus Abrahamsson. It was not until the 1920s and 30s, that Iittala as we know it came into being. In that era of burgeoning creativity, Iittala began to produce more artistic pieces. Most of Iittala porcelain and glass products are still made in Finland.
